C-Notches
Drop the rear far enough and the axle runs out of room before the suspension runs out of travel. It hits the frame rail, and the truck rides on that impact rather than on its springs.
A C-notch removes a section of rail and boxes the opening back to full strength, giving the axle somewhere to go. Weld-in and bolt-in versions are both here. If you are fitting a flip kit, assume you need one.
