Shock Extensions

Raise the front of a truck on a spacer and the shock has to reach further at full droop. Past roughly 2" it runs out of stroke and tops out, which you feel as a hard knock over dips and which shortens the shock.

An extension moves the mounting point instead, so the factory shock keeps working in the middle of its travel where it was designed to. That makes it the cheap, correct answer to a leveling kit, and the wrong answer to a big lift, where the shock needs to be longer rather than mounted further away.

Rule of thumb: up to about 2" on a spacer lift, extensions. Beyond that, shocks built for the height.
